Mysskin’s much loved Pisaasu has gone to Sandalwood and the film titled as Rakshasi will be released this Friday, the 6th November. Ashraf, a former associate of AR Murugadoss who has worked with him in Hindi Ghajini, 7aum Arivu and Thuppakki, has directed the film, which is notable also for the screen debut of Vishal’s dad GK Reddy, who is reprising Radha Ravi’s role in the Kannada version. Navarasan and Sindhu Loganadhan are the leads. Ashraf tells behindwoods,
“It was a great opportunity for me to remake Mysskin sir’s film. When I set out to do this film, I was keen on following Mysskin’s style of making and his shot divisions. While I was working in the film I realized the magnitude of a maker called Mysskin. The film will be same as Pisaasu but for a few additions. I have added a few links which would show the girl seeing the boy a couple of times when she was alive and getting impressed with his character. She would be coming to express her love when she meets with an accident because of him. My crew has done a wonderful job and I should specifically mention GK Reddy sir who was very sincere with the interests and the zeal of a young man.
I don’t know Kannada. But I always recall my mentor Murugadoss’ words that direction transcends language barriers as long as we convey the right mood. He would say that if we communicate the right feel, we can even direct a Korean film. Feelings and emotions are the same all over. When ARM sir came to know that I will be doing Rakshasi, he encouraged and said - You are doing a story which is the first in the world to show a ghost committing suicide. It is an extremely good script and please do it well.
An important feature of Pisaasu was its music and I was keen that Arrol Corelli, who breathed life into it, be brought in for Kannada as well. He has done a wonderful job with the film”.
