Many things can represent one’s life. Oru Naal Iravil (ONI) reiterates this statement by letting the film open with an animation of a rat trap. The entire story or rather in case of ONI, the complete incident that the narrator wants to narrate is easily represented by a rat trap.

Ace editor Anthony debuts with ONI as the director and has to be appreciated for the smart move of choosing to remake a Malayalam film like Shutter because such are the values, elements and nuances loaded in this tale penned by Joy Mathew.

Clean and natural performances by almost all the artists featured in the cast list augment our overall experience as a viewer. Further on, reviews may add a default sentence stating that “No comments on the range of performance has been added” whenever Sathyaraj is sporting a role. Such has become his mastery over performing or rather behaving the character to be precise.

Warm welcome to Anu Mol as she scores well through the narrative with her natural look, body language, dialogue delivery and what not. She is a new addition to the list of wholesome artists of our Tamil industry. Varun also extends a decent job as the assistant of Sathyaraj.

Oru Naal Iravil holds a custom made role for a person like Yugi Sethu. If you haven’t watched the Malayalam version then one cannot think of an alternative name to play that character. He has created his own set of parameters to play this role and showcases extreme consistency, making the audience accept the limitations of that character.  Dixitha Kothari as Sathyaraj’s daughter demands a special mention.

ONI might not be that film that captivates your attention from the first frame but it slowly grows on you and makes you want to know the climax. After watching the climax, one feels more than satisfied for having given 2 hours of his/her time for this film.

ONI is designed in a way that your attention does not get directed towards any technicalities involved in filmmaking, but that itself is a big plus for an attempt to narrate an incident that takes place in a person’s life in a span of 2 days. If you put on your evaluator glasses then MS Prabhu’s cinematography and Editor Anthony’s cuts have very subtly raised the film’s output.

In a sentence, Oru Naal Iravil is a worthy watch for what it does to you in the last 15 minutes. The climax is the highlight of this tale presented by AL Vijay.

Everyone knows that Superstar Rajinikanth is the staunch devotee of the prominent Hindu sage Sri Raghavendra Swami. The Superstar opted a biopic on the saint as his 100th film and did not receive a penny for acting in that film.
In a recent interaction, Rajini revealed that there was a moment when he got angry on Sri Raghavendra. The indomitable and Superstar himself revealed it in a recent public interaction.
"As I have read Vedas and Upanishads during childhood and the Ramakrishna Ashram, I was convinced that the God is within us so I did not care too much to visit temples and started praying the God at my home itself like many others do. Once Sri Raghavendra appeared in my dream and explained the divine quality of the Mantralayam temple. After then I started visiting Mantralayam every year. But due to the heavy rush in Mantralayam I decided that I can pray the lord in the temple at Triplicane Chennai. As people noticed me coming to that temple often that place also becae overcrowded whenever I go there. So I started praying the lord Raghavendra at my home itself and stopped visiting temples.
When I was acting in my 25th film the desire to act in a film on Sri Raghavendra started growing in me. I had watched a Kannada film about the Swami in which Kannada Superstar Rajkumar acted in the lead role. I conveyed my wish to my Guru director K.Balachander and he asked me to go ahead with my wish.
Then only I acted in the film on Sri Raghavendra. But I was sad that the film did not do well initially. I used to directly speak with the lord. I said to the lord ‘I did not act in this film on business interest. You were a great soul and we wanted to spread your glory through this film. If this film did not reach well to the masses then what power you have? Sorry for a few days I will not talk with you. I will not pray to you’. Then I did not pray the lord for some 10-15 days.
At this time, I accidentally met Rajkumar. He wanted to watch the film. I prepared a video cassette and sent it to him. After watching the film he said that the even the Kannada film in which he acted did not go well initially but later people started admiring it. He assured me that the same will happen for my film.
Rajkumar sir’s words became true though my film did not do well initially it picked up later and it was received phenomenally well at every place it was screened.
Only then I understood that it was the lord who came in the form of Rajkumar sir and spoke those assuring words to me. After this realization, I immediately apologized to Sri Raghavendra Swamy and again started praying him routinely.

Actor Dhanush and actress Trisha entered the film industry around the same time and now completed more than a decade in film industry. Both of them are presently dazzling at the top with multiple acting projects in hand. Its a strange coincidence that the duo despite being good friends in real life have never acted together in a film.
Trisha was the first choice for the heroine in 'Aadukalam' the film which fetched the National award for Dhanush. She however backed out due to scheduling problems and was replaced by Tapsee..
Now it seems like the time has ripen to check the onscreen chemistry of Dhanush and Trisha. Reliable sources in Kollywood reveal that Trisha is likely to be roped in as one of the heroines of Dhanush in the film to be directed by Durai Senthilkumar.
In this film Dhanush will be playing dual roles as brothers for the first time and Shamlee has already signed as one of the heroines. Trisha has been approached to pair up with the elder Dhanush in the film and talks are reportedly going towards a positive conclusion.
Veteran director and actor S.A.Chandrasekar, the father of actor Vijay will be acting as Dhanush father in this film.
The yet to be titled film will be produced by Dhanush under his Wunderbar Films banner and it is expected to go on floors by mid November.
We can expect an official confirmation regarding this development. soon.

As we had reported earlier, after the tremendous success of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films banner signed the hero of the film Vijay Sethupathi for another project for which the director and the rest of the cast and crew are kept under wraps.
The latest buzz doing the round is that Selvaraghavan is going to direct the new project as his ‘Kaan’ with Simbu has been shelved. Vijay Sethupathi has appeared in a miniscule role in the director’s ‘Pudhupettai’. So looks like Dhanush, Selvaraghavan and Vijay Sethupathi are reuniting after nine years for a project though it is unclear if Dhanush will restrict himself to being the producer or do a role in the film. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on this front

Vedhalam’ releasing this Diwali has Shruti Haasan pairing with Thala Ajith for the first time in her career. The multilingual actress following the footsteps of her illustrious father Kamal Haasan will also be seen onscreen in a film for a social cause which will be screened in theatres and broadcast on television networks.
The Tamilnadu Fire and Rescue Services department has got Shruti to feature in a Safe Diwali campaign video with the running time of 1 minute 40 seconds in which the pretty actress explains safe ways to burst crackers and enjoy the festival of lights.

Director A.R.Murugadoss is currently busy shooting for his third Bollywood film 'Akira' with Sonakshi Sinha playing the lead role. This is the remake of Tamil super hit thriller flick 'Mouna Guru'.
After 'Akira' Murugadoss will take up a Telugu-Tamil bilingual which will have Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role. This film is expected to begin in 2016.
While it is being speculated that Murugadoss will direct Vijay for the third time after finishing the film with Mahesh Babu, sources in the know reveal that the acclaimed director has narrated a script to the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and Sallu Bhai has given the nod to star in it.
We will have to wait for an official confirmation regarding this development.

A tweet from Karunaas twitter account attacked Ajith by stating that the mass hero should not be invited for any Nadigar Sangam cultural events held abroad and the office bearers of the Sangam should never knock his doors asking for any help from him in the future.
Karunaas , the newly elected Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam , has released a press statement in which he has clarified that his twitter account has been hacked by miscreants who have used his name for such a hideous act. He reaffirmed that he has very good relationship with all the heroes and heroines he has acted with from the time of his debut and he harbors no grudge against anyone. The actor informed that the matter has been taken to the Commissioners Office. It may be recalled that Ajith and Karunaas shared great chemistry onscreen in 'Villain'.

It has been widely reported that after fifteen years since their blockbuster ‘Kushi’ S.J.Surya will be directing Illayathalapathy Vijay for the second time.
It is now learnt that Surya will in fact direct a straight Telugu film next with Pawan Kalyan in the lead role and shooting is expected to begin soon. It is worth noting that Pawan Kalyan was S.J.Surya’s hero in the 2001 Telugu remake of ‘Kushi’ which again went on to become a monster hit. The question that pops up now is whether S.J. Surya will direct ‘Vijay 60’ or ‘Vijay 61’.

Anushka after ‘Rudhramadevi’ is playing the title role in ‘Inji Iduppazhagi’ produced by PVP Cinemas and directed by Prakash Kovelmudi. The film is a bilingual titled ‘Size Zero’ in Telugu with Arya playing the male lead in both versions.
Superstar Nagarjuna is making a special cameo appearance in ‘Size Zero’ and Jiiva is doing the same role in ‘Inji Iduppazhagi’. Jiiva who is a very close friend of Arya also did a cameo in the latter’s ‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’. Both the versions are set to hit the screens on the 27th of November.

After a string of hits cinematographer turned director K.V. Anand has established himself as one of the most bankable commercial directors in South India. After ‘Anegan’ there is great curiosity about his next movie and during the past months it was rumored that talks were on with Ajith, Sivakarthikeyan, Arya and most recently Jayam Ravi to play the lead role under the AGS Entertainment ll produce.
Now we hear from reliable sources that the super hit ‘Ko’ combo of Jiiva , K.V. Anand and producer Elred Kumar of RS Infotainment are coming together for the project and are ready to make an official announcement sooner rather than later.

The monster hit ‘Baahubali’ surely has done miracles for everyone concerned with it and especially the hero Prabhas who dedicated more than three long years of hard toil to get his role right. Great news coming in now is that Prabhas is on the verge of being finalized for the main antagonist role in the fourth installment of the blockbuster ‘Dhoom’ series to be produced by Yash Raj Films.
In the last three films it was John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan who played the al powerful central character of the villain and now in ‘Dhoom 4’ it will be Prabhas whose physique and appearance in ‘Baahubali’ mightily impressed the Bollywood team. Amitabh Bachan, Abhishek Bachan, Uday Chopra along with Hrithik Roshan in a cameo role are the other big names attached to the mega project.

We had already reported that director Vishnuvardhan has joined hands with noted novelist and screenwriter Balakumaran to film one of his historical stories. It is now rumored the story deals with the building of the Thanjavur Temple during the times of Raja Raja Cholan. Vishnuvardhan is said to be keen on casting his favourite hero Thala Ajith as the great Chola King.
It is worth remembering that Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan has won many accolades playing King in ‘Raja Raja Cholan’ which was the first Cinemascope film in Tamil cinema. If things work out Ajith will only be the second major star to play Raja Raja Cholan and the millions of his fans will be delighted to see him in majestic period costumes.

One of the most entertaining movies in the last couple of years is ‘Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam’ directed by Ponram and starring Sivakarthikeyan, Sridivya and Sathyaraj. When the hero and director along with music director D.Imman came together again for ‘Rajini Murugan’, expectations skyrocketed but unfortunately the film which was completed many months ago got caught in the financial mess caused by the failure of ‘Uttama Villain’ for producers Thirupathi Brothers .
Now things seem to be looking up for the film as we hear that Thirupathi Brothers have negotiated with their main creditors Eros Entertainment to allow for the release of ‘Rajini Murugan’ who have relented at last and preparations have now begun to book screens for a release on the 21st of October to capitalize on the long Pooja holidays which will bring in the family audiences for whom Sivakarthikeyan is the current favorite hero. We hope the Goddess Saraswathi ensures that the film does hit the screens this time and not disappoint again.

As we reported earlier Sivakarthikeyan’s next film to be directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan is beginning shooting from the 2nd of November. The as yet untitled film is produced under the banner of 24AM Studios by R.D. Raja.
The intro song of Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthi Suresh is going to be shot first on grandly erected sets and then other outdoor locations including the Chennai Metro Train on which some crucial shots will be captured by the lens of P.C.Sreeram. The song is said to be a peppy number by Anirudh which will be choreographed by Raju Sundaram.

While Dhanush's first production venture with Vijay Sethupathi 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' bringing the much-needed break in the latter's career, here comes the confirmation of the duo teaming up again.
Dhanush has confirmed in his social media page that Vijay Sethupathi is onboard for another project with his production banner Wunderbar Films.
It is worth noting that after producing 'Ethirneechal' and establishing Siva Karthikeyan as a bankable hero, Dhanush produced 'Kaakki Sattai' again with Siva playing the lead role. Both the films were written and directed by Durai Sethilkumar.
Dhanush is yet to reveal on who will direct his second production with Vija Sethupathi. Will it be Vignesh Shivan who struck gold with 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan"?  We will have to wait to know this.
Meanwhile 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' has been running to pakced houses wherever it was screened and the number of screens have also increased. Today being Sunday, SPI Cinemas in Chennai has allotted special morning shows in all of its six screens, which is a clear indicating of the film success.

Like how there is no movie without the camera there is also no mass hero film without punch dialogues. The often rhyming words spoken with the right pauses and expressions by their favorite heroes is what sends the mass fans into a frenzy.
In the upcoming Diwali release ‘Vedhalam’ directed by Siruthai Siva Thala Ajith is said to have mouthed many punch dialogues telling men to respect women and advocating for women empowerment in general. The film depicts the love between siblings with Lakshmi Menon playing Ajith’s sister and Shruti Haasan as his love interest. Music by Anirudh has already become the talking point of the film with all the songs becoming super hits. ‘Vedhalam’ hits the screens on the 10th of November.

The latest we hear on Pandiraj’s ‘Idhu Namma Aalu’ is that producer T. Rajendhar has decided to speed up the pending work for the film with the view of bringing it to the screens in a couple of months. For a kuthu song composed by music director Kuralarasan Nayanthara and Simbu were supposed to dance but the heroine has refused to take part as many of her call sheets were wasted during principle filming.
The unnamed sources revealed that though Pandiraj is not keen on the kuthu song T.R. feels the need for it for promotional activities and now it looks like Andrea who is playing a major role in ‘Idhu Namma Aalu’ will shake legs with Simbu for the number in exotic locations in the USA soon.

Ajith fans are on cloud nine as this is going to be yet another Thala Diwali for them with ‘Vedhalam’ releasing on the tenth. On the other hand the Vijay fans are not in such high spirits as their idol’s film is not releasing this year.
We hear from reliable sources that Illayathalapathy Vijay has requested director Atlee and producer Kalaipuli Thanu to make arrangements to give a triple treat for his fans. Yes the ‘Vijay 59’ team is planning to come out with the title, first look poster and the first look teaser on this Diwali. That sure is sweet news for all those Illayathalapathy fans.

While every Tamil movie buff is getting ready to welcome the Deepavali with the grand release of Kamal Haasan's 'Thoongavanam' and Ajith's 'Vedalam' on November 10, the Telugu versions of the two films which were supposed to have a simultaneous release have been postponed.
Kamal's film has been made as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual and the Telugu version's title is 'Cheekati Rajyam'. Ajith's 'Vedalam has been made in Tamil and it has been dubbed in Telugu as 'Avesham'. It has been confirmed that 'Cheekati Rajyam will release only on November 20 while the release date of 'Aavesham' is yet to be fixed but it will certainly not release around Deepavali.
The reason cited for the postponement is the non availability of theater in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana due to the big Telugu releases for Deepavali.

Sanu Varughese, the cinematographer of Thoongavanam has worked with Kamal Haasan in Viswaroopam too. Basically concentrating on commercials, Sanu does take time to choose his feature films. In a career spanning 16 years, he has done around 10-12 feature films, some of them are Farhan Aktar’s Karthik calling Karthik, Hasee Toh Phasee and Amitabh Bachchan’s Wazir in Hindi.

In an exclusive chat with behindwoods, he discusses about Thoongavanam, Kamal and working with Rajesh M Selva.

Kamal Haasan

My association with Kamal began during Marmayogi times, but the project did not take off. When he was directing Viswaroopam, he called me again and Thoongavanam naturally happened on those lines. We share a good working equation and it is easy to work with Kamal sir.

Kamal and I used to talk a lot in between shots. Thoongavanam was scheduled in such a way we could have all those chats in the middle of the takes (laughs). It is very interesting talking to Kamal as he has an entirely different way of thinking. It was good to hear his take on life, science, his conviction and rationalism. I got to hear stories about old Malayalam movies that I have grown up on, which he was a part of. We share a lot of common interest and to me it was like going back to school.

Challenging aspect in Thoongavanam

I had to do something that I had not done before. We wanted to avoid all the movie lighting and worked mostly on the practical stuff. Sets were designed in such a way that the practicals would work for us. We also wanted to bring in lots of color because, today, a lit environment looks like a lot of colors in it, fluorescence of different colors, LED fixtures, sodium vapor lamps and so on. We wanted to bring in those elements in a modern urban lit scape. It was a different scheme that I had not done before, but attempted in Thoongavanam. I think it has worked out well for the film.

What did Kamal say to your work?

He liked my work; we matched quite a bit tastewise. Kamal is one person who would appreciate things for the merit of it. That way he is very good to work with. He liked what I did with Viswaroopam also.

Difference between Viswaroopam and Thoongavanam

In Viswaroopam we were trying to picturize a real kind of zone, but not losing all the drama. What was going on was very real and unless you depict it with a sense of naturalism, it would have lost its impact.

In Thoongavanam too, we were roughly in the same scheme of things in approaching lighting and shooting the film, but it was a little more dramatic here. A lot of frames were shot handheld. The sets were lit 360 degrees and we could move around and shoot freely in the centre of action without worrying about what would come in our way. We wanted to free up the camera so much so that we can move freely and cover action. That was the effort.

Rajesh

I know Rajesh for a long time. His skills in scheduling and putting up a project together are impeccable. We used to discuss a lot before shooting and brainstorm and it was a very nice collaborative effort in Thoongavanam.

Every department in Thoongavanam was thinking of bettering their effort. They used to feel that they own a good part of the film in terms of their contribution. Rajesh is good in that way in getting the positive energy of the crew and also a lot has to do with his smart scheduling skills.

For a five day shoot, he would start with easy ones, move on to tougher ones and then end with lighter ones so that even if there was a spill over on earlier tough scenes, that were handled on the last easy days.  It was so well scheduled that the crew did not even realize they are doing something tough and it went on very smoothly.

Your next project

Whenever Rajesh starts his next, I will be there!

Vineeth Sreenivasan is an acclaimed director in Malayalam and the latest announcement about his next film has incited a lot of curiosity. The film titled as Jacobinte Swargarajyam appears to be a casting coup of sorts with Nivin Pauly, director Gautham Vasudev Menon and Lakshmy Ramakrishnan on board.

Explaining on what made her accept the film, an excited Lakshmy says, “The hero-director team of Nivin Pauly and Vineeth Sreenivasan is the most happening one in Malayalam and it was too good an offer to refuse. I was very impressed with the way Vineeth narrated the script. He is very humble, rooted and simple. Since I am done with Ammani and am only in the scripting stage of my next film, I had time and accepted the project. More so, having done more than 40 films and some notable ones like VTV, Eeram, Nadodigal and Naan Mahaan Alla, I don’t want to lose touch with acting because it is something I love”.

Jacobinte Swargarajyam will commence from November and the major portion of the shooting is said to take place in the Middle East with a few portions to be shot in Kerala.

During a court hearing on 29th October 2015, Thursday, the High Court of Madras has reportedly ruled that the ticket rates for the films with entertainment tax benefit must be sold at lower prices. If a film enjoys 30% tax exemption, so must the viewers of that film.

Hence the Court has ruled that the ticket rates for the movies with tax exemption must be cut by 30%. For instance, if the selling rate of a ticket in a theatre is Rs 120, it must Rs 84 for the film with the tax benefit hence forth. For this category of films, the theatres, as ordered, must print a special set of tickets with the apt price mentioned on it.

The court has also asked the concerned authorities to issue orders to start exploiting the rule within 4 weeks from now.

Kamal Haasan's Diwali release Thoongavanam will open worldwide on November 10. The film is set to be released prominently in the NSC areas (North Arcot, South Arcot and Chengalpet) of TN by Global United Media, the production - distribution company that released 'I' and Baahubali in Kerala.

Thoongavanam was recently censored with a U/A certificate and carries positive industry buzz. Trisha, Prakash Raj and Kishore also hold pivotal roles in this Rajesh M Selva directorial with music by Ghibran.

Thala Ajith starrer Vedalam has been censored with a clean U certificate by the censor board today, October 30th. Siruthai Siva directs the film and like his previous outing with Ajith, Veeram, this film has also bagged a clean chit from the censors.

Now all eyes are on the official release date, which can be expected anytime soon. The trailer of the film is also eagerly looked out for, by fans.

A.M.Rathnam funds this commercial entertainer, which is an Anirudh musical. Diwali Saravedi ready!!!

Bayama Irukku is an upcoming film that features Santhosh Prathap of Kadhai Thiraikadhai Vasanam Iyakkam fame as the lead with Reshmi Menon as the heroine. The film is directed by newbie Jawahar.

Talking about his film, Santhosh says, “It is a horror comedy and the story is between a husband and wife and their kid. Reshmi Menon plays my wife. Although she is afraid of ghosts, the extent to which she goes to protect her loved ones will be the highlight of the film. We have shot in the interiors of Kerala, Chennai and Nagercoil. The interesting fact was that we needed to travel only through boats to the shooting locales in Kerala.”

The film produced by Vasantham Productions features Kovai Sarala, Jegan, Lollu Saba Jeeva, Motta Rajendran, Nadodigal Barani and others. There are four songs in the film composed by Sathya and Mahendran of Kaadu fame is the cinematographer. The film is completed and all set for release.

Kalaipuli S Thanu is currently busy funding two mega projects for our beloved Superstar Rajini (Kabali) and Ilayathalapathy Vijay (Vijay 59). Now credible source confirms to Behindwoods that S Thanu will be producing a film with Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar along with lyricist Pa.Vijay in the lead.

This movie is about a 70 year old angry man which will be directed by debutant Vikram Vijay. Actress Chandini takes the spot of the female lead while MS Bhaskar, Viji and Mottai Rajendran will be part of the cast list. The film is titled as ‘Nyappudai’. “SAC sir will concentrate more on the lines of acting from now on” hints a known source.

As reported earlier, SA Chandrasekhar will be playing the role of Dhanush’s father in director Durai Senthilkumar's project. Details regarding the other crew members are due. We will update you soon.

Bengal Tiger is an upcoming Telugu film featuring Ravi Teja and Tamannaah in the leads which is directed by Sampath Nandi and produced by Radha Mohan for Sri Sathya Sai Arts. The film was scheduled to be released on the 5th of November but looks like it is getting postponed.

While there were talks that the film is going to be reshot which was the reason for the postponement of the release, the producer has clarified saying that it is totally baseless. He adds, “We are not going to reshoot the film. The film is complete. We did not want to clash with ‘Akhil’ and that’s the reason we are postponing the release”.

WANT TO KNOW A FILM THAT IS CLOSE TO SURIYA’S HEART?

Suriya is currently busy with 24, the film that is being produced by his home banner 2D Entertainment and directed by Vikram Kumar of Manam and Yaavarum Nalam fame.

The film is said to be a sci-fi flick and has Samantha as the heroine with A R Rahman’s music and Kiran Deohans' cinematography.

The unit recently was in Poland and was said to have canned many sequences there. It is also said that after coming back to India, few scenes were filmed in Pune at a popular cricket stadium that used to be the home turf for the IPL franchise, Pune Warriors.

Now it looks like the unit is nearing the fag end of their shooting journey and apparently hero Suriya is touched by the hard work put in by the entire crew. He took to his microblogger to say,

“24'..., last day of shoot..Another close to heart project, hope you all like it. Thanks to the entire cast n crew for all the hard work n fun!”

Since the unit is done with the shooting, post production work would be fastened up as the film eyes a Pongal 2016 release.

VIGNESH SHIVAN, VIJAY SETHUPATHI AND NAYANTHARA AGAIN?

By Jyothsna | Nov 03, 2015

Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (NRD) has been liked by the critics and the masses alike and the film is doing well for its producers to reap in the best benefits. The film featured Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the leads and was directed by Vignesh Shivan and produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.

There were talks in the media that Vignesh Shivan will once again be teaming up with the NRD team of Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara for a project that would be bankrolled by Kalaipuli Thanu.

But reliable sources state that nothing has been confirmed on the said subject and it is too early to talk about it right now. We will, as usual update you on the developments!

Vedalam is nearing its release date, November 10, which is just a week away. The film is also coming out with a Telugu dubbed version titled Aavesham and dubbing works for the same are going on at a steadfast pace. The question is, will Aavesham also come out on 10th? Lets find out.

Akhil is a big Telugu release on Nov 11th, and it is the launch pad of Nagarjuna's youngest son, Akkineni Akhil. And Salman Khan's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo produced by Rajshri Productions is releasing on Nov 12th and the film will also be having a Telugu dubbed version, where Ram Charan has dubbed for Salman Khan. Both these films are expected to grab most of the screens in the two Telugu speaking states and it is unlikely that Aavesham will release on 10th given the expected screen crunch there.

Cheekati Rajyam (the Telugu version of Thoongavanam) has already postponed its release to Nov 20. So is Ajith also backing out, like Kamal?

CAN VEDALAM CROSS PULI'S COUNT?

Vedalam is set to open in a record 58 locations in the UK with the scope for further rise in its screen count. This is a massive screen count for Ajith and the 2nd widest ever for a Tamil film in the UK.

Ajay, an authentic box-office analyst based in the UK has more perspectives here,

"As of now, 58 locations have been scheduled for Vedalam by Ayngaran. This is huge for Ajith's UK market, track record and scope, and is a record release for him. UK ticket bookings for Vedalam will open this week and the buzz is very good. Vedalam will have the very clear upper hand compared to Thoongavanam (to be released by Qentertainment) in terms of opening screen count.

Puli released in 62 locations. There is a chance that they will increase locations for Vedalam after release, like they did for Puli. So there is a small possibility, Vedalam might pass 62 and be the widest ever Tamil release in the UK. If Vedalam clicks, Ajith will definitely be on the rise here.

Diwali release t
ime, a good family entertainer and a 58 locations release should bring in healthy collections.",

The National Award winner Bobby Simha is all set to get hitched with his Urumeen co-star Reshmi Menon. Rumors about their romance were always floating around, but the duo continued to decline the same.

But it looks like the couple is planning to take their relationship to the next level and would be getting engaged this coming Sunday, the November 8th at a private guest house in Mylapore, Chennai. Sources say that the engagement function would be a private affair that would just be attended by family and close friends. They would later be deciding on the wedding date.

Simha’s close friend Karunakaran tweeted, “Congratulations @ActorSimhaa @ReshmiMenonK on your engagement”.

We at behindwoods wish the lovely couple lots of happiness and joy on their impending engagement!

As reported earlier, Vikram Prabhu teams up with SR Prabhakaran of Sundarapandian and Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal fame for an action script. The film will be funded by Sathya Jyothi Films and the team plans on going to the shooting floor from the 7th of December.

The plot is set up in the background of Trichy. We hear that this film will feature four villains who will be locking horns with our hero Vikram Prabhu. The lady lead is yet to be fixed and Sivakumar Vijayan who wielded his camera for Iraivi heads the department of photography for this film too. Vijai Murugan takes care of the art department.

The project is yet to be titled.

Mysskin’s much loved Pisaasu has gone to Sandalwood and the film titled as Rakshasi will be released this Friday, the 6th November. Ashraf, a former associate of AR Murugadoss who has worked with him in Hindi Ghajini, 7aum Arivu and Thuppakki, has directed the film, which is notable also for the screen debut of Vishal’s dad GK Reddy, who is reprising Radha Ravi’s role in the Kannada version. Navarasan and Sindhu Loganadhan are the leads. Ashraf tells behindwoods,

“It was a great opportunity for me to remake Mysskin sir’s film. When I set out to do this film, I was keen on following Mysskin’s style of making and his shot divisions. While I was working in the film I realized the magnitude of a maker called Mysskin. The film will be same as Pisaasu but for a few additions. I have added a few links which would show the girl seeing the boy a couple of times when she was alive and getting impressed with his character. She would be coming to express her love when she meets with an accident because of him. My crew has done a wonderful job and I should specifically mention GK Reddy sir who was very sincere with the interests and the zeal of a young man.

I don’t know Kannada. But I always recall my mentor Murugadoss’ words that direction transcends language barriers as long as we convey the right mood. He would say that if we communicate the right feel, we can even direct a Korean film. Feelings and emotions are the same all over. When ARM sir came to know that I will be doing Rakshasi, he encouraged and said - You are doing a story which is the first in the world to show a ghost committing suicide. It is an extremely good script and please do it well.

An important feature of Pisaasu was its music and I was keen that Arrol Corelli, who breathed life into it, be brought in for Kannada as well. He has done a wonderful job with the film”.

2014 has been an eventful year for Tamil film industry. A record 215 films have been released this year. Only 15 out of the 215 films released have been profitable for their producers.
This is a year a lot of new people entered the film trade, resulting in record prices for big star movies. The price they paid was far more than actual market conditions.

It has been a mixed year for the industry as there were far too many external factors, which unsettled the release plans. And fringe political groups went out of its way to create release road blocks. Another factor that created legal issues was the plagiarism charges hurled by many assistant directors and writers at established directors.

Here is a list of the most profitable Tamil films at the box-office for the producers, distributors and other right holders. It is based on Return On Investment (ROI) from theatrical (India domestic), Overseas, Satellite and other rights. The box-office collections and ratings are from trade sources, but we cannot vouch for it. However, it gives an overall indication of how the films worked at the B.O.
